About Membership

Invitation to apply for membership of GigaPlus Argyll

GigaPlus Argyll has been established to facilitate the supply of next generation broadband services to the islands of Lismore, Iona, Luing, and Colonsay, parts of Mull, Islay and Jura, and to the Craignish peninsula – all communities which will not be reached by the current BT Openreach roll-out of its superfast fibre programme.

GigaPlus Argyll was registered in December 2014, under the Co-operative and Community Benefit Societies Act 2014, as a Community Benefit Society (registered no. 7050). It obtained public funding through Community Broadband Scotland and entered a contract with AB Internet to build and operate a wireless network which will deliver download speeds of at least 24Mbps to customers throughout its operational area. GigaPlus Argyll constitutes the governing body responsible, on behalf of all the communities to be served, for ensuring the complete network and subsequent broadband services are delivered to the specified standard.

GigaPlus Argyll is democratically controlled by its members and membership is open to all adults who support the Society’s objects and who are resident in Argyll and Bute. Membership is also available to corporate bodies and others which have their main place of business in Argyll and Bute. More details of membership and an application form can be found here.

We encourage applications for membership from all who support this community initiative and who wish to play a part in its operation and development.
